2013 Week 32 – Kai’s First “Hairdo”

Kai's first hair-do

Kai’s abuela (Juanitaaaa!!), and his crazy tia (Vane) are constantly complaining about us not “combing” Kai’s hair.  They’ve even gone as far as to threaten to take us to court because of this… whatever that means.  Well, here’s what taking matters into your own hands looks like.  During her “very short” visit, Kai’s Grandma decided it was time for a change (Yes She Can!).  Given the complexity of his fluffy, curly, straight, soft, patched hair; this was the best she could do.  I must admit, I think Kai liked it since he actually wore it for an entire day.  The following day it was a different story.  Maybe we should have forced him to sleep with his head propped up on a pillow in order to preserve the hairdo (Like Vane).  For the record: Kai’s hair gets combed everyday!  But it has a mind of its own.

2013 Week 31 – Kai Visits the “Cinta Costera”

Kai Visits the Cinta Costera

Firstly, let me begin by saying I make no apologies for the delays in posting/updates.  As you all know, life is literally developing in front of my eyes every day.  I’m sure you understand.  Anyway, Sunday is our out-and-about day with Kai, and on this particular one, we decided to venture out to the “Cinta Costera” (Google translate for those of you Spanish-challenged).  It was a great atmosphere, and he loved being out there.  We even had a stranger come up to us and ask if we needed help with a group picture since we were struggling to do the self portrait thing.  She mentioned that Kai was a cute baby; I said thanks on his behalf, but I had to let her know that she was just too old for him, and that she should keep it moving…

2013 Week 30 – Kai Plays Rough

Yes, Kai is a cute baby.  And yes, Kai is an easy-to-love baby.  Yes, Kai is also a smart baby.  But if, and only if, one word had to be chosen to describe Kai, it would have to be “rough”.  Yes, Kai is a rough baby.  He bangs on his high chair, he bangs on the floor, he throws his toys, and if you’re not careful while holding him, he will throw himself backwards.  Here’s a short clip where his cousin Caleb tries to teach him how to play with his toy truck, but Kai insists on playing with the truck the same way he plays with his other toys, ROUGH!

2013 Week 29 – Kai Enjoys Mom Mom and Cousin Amara

Kai and the ladies

Yes, that’s right, for the entire month of July, Kai enjoyed being spoiled by his Mom Mom and his senior cousin Amara (and for many of those days, add his other cousin and favorite baby sitter, Cailin).  It was easy; all he had to do was be cute, and later demand (bang on a table, or cry out) whenever he needed something **cough** attention **cough**.  At times he refused to go to sleep like a good boy unless Mom Mom held him, and read from his favorite book “Monday the Bullfrog”.  Yes, the estrogen level was high around the house, but Kai managed to take full advantage of the situation by being Kai.  Here we see his lazy pose with one leg up, just because.

2013 Week 28 – Kai Brushes His Teeth/Gums

Kai Brushes His Teeth

During one of his morning showers; where he decides the person showering him should also take a half-shower, Kai also decided it was time enough to show that he’s capable of brushing his own teeth.  So he very “Kaindly” (code word for roughly) pulled the brush out of his mother’s hand and proceeded with brushing his teeth and gums.  “I got this, I’m old enough” -Kai

2013 Week 27 – Kai Wears A Tuxedo

Kai Wears A Tux

Also known as Tuxedo-Kai, Kai decided it was time to show the world the reason for the aka.  On this occasion he was celebrating his Tio Gildo’s birthday as classy as can be.  Needless to say, the jacket stayed on for about 15 minutes; if that.  The bow tie got tossed in about 19 minutes, the cummerbund eventually ended up front-to-back, and finally he decided to go with the “beach-tux” look by getting rid of the shoes. Luckily his father was there to freeze the moment before the borderline stripping began.

2013 Week 26 – Kai Fights Sleep

Its been a long time since I posted a Kai updates, and for this I apologize.  In order to compensate for my lack of keeping you guys updated, I decided to make this one a video post.

Kai is a master at fighting sleep, in this specific occasion he rubbed his eyes, he rolled around the bed, he made the fart sound with the pacifier in his mouth, he made the fart sound without the pacifier in his mouth, he made the fart sound with his butt, he cried, he stopped crying, he laughed, he dried humped the bed, and then he did it all over again 50 more times (don’t worry, the video is a short version of all these things).  Eventually, and as always, he lost.  Sleep 1 – 0 Kai

2013 Week 25 – Kai Goes To The Beach

Kai goes to the beach

After 6.5 months Kai has finally made it to the beach.  I’m not quite sure how it would compare with his 9 months amniotic fluid experience, but I can definitely say he loved it.  He couldn’t wait for the waves to come crashing. He threw some sand, he splashed the water, but interestingly enough he never tried to eat the sand.  I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that he didn’t try to eat the sand.  He touched it, looked at it, probably thought “only a silly baby would try to eat this”, then he tossed it like a salad.  Hopefully he behaves the same way when he discovers dirt.

2013 Week 24 – Kai’s Father’s Day

Kai's Father's Day

I’m not 100% sure if Kai is aware of this, but he’s the reason for his father being able to “celebrate” father’s day for the first time.  It was a day filled with joy and laughter, but so is any other day spent with Kai  (even though he’s showing off his rude boy smile in this picture).  He’s my precious, however, I’m a bit hesitant to say that I’m his Smeagol.  Time will tell.  Love you Little Buddy!

2013 Week 23 – Kai Bounces Himself To Sleep

Kai Bounces Himself to Sleep

Around the time that Kai was 4 months old I was advised by my challenged cousin (**cough** Brenda **cough**) to purchase a bouncer for Kai.  Being the first-time-baby-father that I am, I Googled it, read tens of reviews, watched videos, and in about 30 minutes; maybe less, I made the purchase.  Two weeks later Kai was sitting in his bouncer and he hated it.  The first thing that came to my mind was that it served me right for following advice from a challenged family member.  But like most things in life, timing was the key.  A few days later Kai was back on the bouncer and loving it.  He jumps when he’s happy and he jumps when he’s mad (crying, screaming but still jumping).  Here we see him drunk off jumping
