2013 Week 22 – Kai Is 1/2 Year Old (Kaimetrics)

Kai is 6 months old

Introducing first, from the Brown corner (Coley also but that’s not really a color), weighing 8.5 kilos, and standing (well, laying most of the time, but still) at 69 centimeters.  He hails from Panama City, Panama (with a little bit of Brooklyn), and is rated by ALL as the best kilo for kilo baby of the last 6 months.  With too many wins, all of them by way of love and Kainess, and 0 defeats.  He is the current Baby Weight champion of the world, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I INTRODUCE TO YOU THE ONE AND ONLY… Oh please, you know he needs no introduction.

For those of you who are metric system impaired, and too lazy to use Google to convert, Kai weighs 18.7 pounds, and he’s more or less 27.165 inches long (2′ 3″ for the NBA scouts)

2013 Week 21 – Kai, The R. Kelly Fan

Kai The R. Kelly Fan

Historically Kai has been very good with babysitters.  This time around it was his 11 year old (going on 21) cousin Cailin’s turn.  We had tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s Sunday showing, and we had to do what we had to do to make it there (awesome show by the way).

[After the show]
Me:  So how was he?
Cailin: He was good; he peed on me.

Yes that’s right, Kai is notorious for pulling his R. Kelly move on innocent bystanders.  He even smiles while doing it.  He got me almost every day when he first arrived; multiple times per day.  I blame myself for the lack of experience.  So I’ve been trying my hardest to remember if any R. Kelly tracks were playing in the background when sperm was trying to meet egg, but I’m older now and my long term memory isn’t as good as it used to be.  “I don’t see nothing wrong” – R. Kelly.

2013 Week 20 – Kai Self Medicates

Kai Self Medicates

Kai has been going through his “put everything in your mouth” phase for quite some time now, but these days it’s more than just for research purposes; it is his form of self medication in order to alleviate his teething woes.  Yeah, we purchased some teething toys for him, but he doesn’t have time to wait for mommy and daddy to get him what he needs, so he makes due; in this case by pulling on the jump through hoop of his Splash Mega Exersaucer.  I think Don Drapper was involved in the naming of this toy.  Genius!

2013 Week 19 – Kai Holds His Own

Kai holds his bottle

Like I mentioned in the Week 7 post, Kai has always made some sort of attempt at eat-time independence by holding his own bottle.  Well, I am proud to say; and show, that he has finally succeeded.  Here we have him showing off his newly developed skill.  Let me tell you this is a great relief to mommy and daddy, the next step is to watch him change his own poopy diaper.

2013 Week 18 – Kai Plays With Tio Ivan

week-18-kai-and-tio-ivan

One of my goals as Kai’s father is to make sure he gets to spend as much quality time as possible with other members of the family; mainly his cousins.  Cousins are important, and if enough time is spent together an everlasting bond in created; almost as strong as brothers and sisters, and sometimes even stronger.  This past weekend Kai got to spend some times with four of his cousins, but the picture that stole the show was this one with his Tio Ivan.  Ivan is a master with the kids, they veer towards him, and anything he does is entertainment for them.   Kai loves it!

2013 Week 17 – Kai The Future BBaller

Kai The Future BBaller

So this past Sunday I decided that at 4.95 months it was time to introduce Kai to the basketball court.  There’s no doubt in my mind that he will be a “bballer”; whether he wants to or not (you think  “The Fencer” chose to fence?  Sometimes you have to “push” them).  I’m thinking something like a 6’3″ or 6’4″ ankle breaking NYC style ball handling guard.  Without the silly drama of course.  And 1!

2013 Week 16 – Kai Watches Daddy

Kai Watches Daddy

Truth be told this week has been such a roller coaster that I almost forgot to take my weekly picture.  In fact, looking back at my library this was the only picture I took of Kai during week 16.  -85 for me.  Anyway, I’ve noticed that my “little buddy” (as I like to call him) has this thing about watching me.  The other day I took him in the bathroom me, and he sat there for about 10 minutes or so, just watching as I shaved my head and my beard.  10 minutes of watching is a long time for anyone, especially a 4.8 month old baby.  The same thing happens when I walk into the house, a room he is in, or if I start to talk (even though the talking thing could be because I’m Brooklyn-loud when I talk).   He pauses from whatever he’s doing, stares at daddy for a few, then is back to business. I like that; it makes me feel as if though he’s already identifying with this father.  That means I have to watch my every move as I’m already been watched.

2013 Week 15 – Kai Walks The Neighborhood With Daddy

Kai Walks The Neighborhood

While it is way to early to claim any kind of ADHD or whatever other disorder we enjoy giving the kids in order to have an “excuse”, one thing we know with certainty is that Kai enjoys being out in the streets.  I think it’s safe to say he’s more at ease when we’re out and about, than when we’re sitting at home doing what we do most of the time: nothing.  Here he is walking the neighborhood with daddy and being serious about it.

2013 Week 14 – Kai Does Tummy Time

Tummy Time with Kai

Here we see Kai flexing his guns while doing tummy time on his u-pillow.  A few minutes after this he decided this u-pillow thing was holding him back from being the adventurous baby that he his, so he tried his best to just climb over it.  He succeeded, though it was not pretty.

2013 Week 13 – Kai Goes Kindred For Easter Sunday

Kai goes Kindred

So we decided to go to church on Easter Sunday, and of course we had to take Kai with us (his first time in church).  Being the unpredictable son that he is, this could have been a bit of a challenge since the church usually has like a 3-5 hours service.  His mom; being the designer that she is, had an outfit made for him, not for Easter, but what better day to inaugurate it?  Here he is sporting his Kindred Baby Jumper, and he loves it.  By the way, he did great in church.  Didn’t cry, didn’t complain, and he even found himself a lil’ girlfriend.  I told him about church girls.  You know what they say about church girls; right?
